Set against the backdrop of Asheville in beautiful Western North Carolina, this editorial explores the intersection of classic suiting and denim—where tradition meets rebellion. At its core, the story is a celebration of Black-owned businesses and the vibrant cultural presence they bring to the region.

Through intentional styling, nuanced visuals, and an emphasis on braiding and African American hair expression, the shoot honors heritage while pushing aesthetic boundaries.

This is a portrait of power, identity, and creativity woven directly into the fabric of community.

The story spotlights Soces Hair Braiding, a community pillar for over 25 years, and a newly opened Black-owned beauty supply store in Biltmore Village—marking a fresh chapter in visibility and ownership. Through braiding, texture, and form, this visual narrative crowns the everyday elegance and enduring presence of Black Asheville.

Photographed at Krowned by Crooks beauty supply, Soce’s African Hair braiding and YMI-Young Men’s Institute of Asheville.
